The Diaspora Travel Experience is a non-academic, fully immersive program built for diasporans who want to explore South Africa — no coursework, no syllabus, just a real, guided journey through the country's culture, history, and everyday life.
These experiences are designed to help diasporans see Johannesburg through new eyes: not as tourists passing through, but as travelers reconnecting with a place that has always been part of a larger story.
Personally led
Guided by Dr. Asad
Every Diaspora Travel Experience is led personally by Dr. Asad el Malik — drawing on his own journey from the United States to South Africa, and years spent building cultural bridges between the two, to guide each group through the country he now calls home.
When to go
Experiences are offered three times a year, giving travelers flexibility to plan around what works for them.
